Sacro Monte della SS. Trinità di Ghiffa

The Sacro Monte della SS. Trinità di Ghiffais located at 360 metres above sea level on the slopes of Monte Cargiagowith a splendid view on the Lake Maggiore.
Desired by Borromeo between the end of the 16th and the middle of the 17th century he supposedly portrayed some episodes of the Old and the New Testaments. In reality the project never came to completion, realizing itself in only three chapels: the first one is dedicated to the Coronation of Mary, the second one to John the Baptist, the third one to Abraham.
In the second half of the 18th century, the Via Crucis (Way of the Cross) portico and the chapel of our Lady of Sorrows were then added.
The current church was erected in the first decades of the 1600s. Inside are found the altar of the Trinity and the miraculous fresco in which the image of Christ is reproduced three times.
Next to the Sanctuary there is the Hermitage House.
