San Nazzaro Sesia abbey

It is a question of one of the most
meaningful Abbey complexes of northern Italy.
It rises in the midst of rice fields.
Founded in the 11th century in an ancient Benedictine
monastery, redone in the 12th century and nearly
completely reconstructed and fortified in the 15th
century.
It holds an atrium arranged on two floors and a Roman bell tower.
The church was reconstructed in the 15th century and in
Gothic style. The façade is richly decorated with terra
cotta frames. The cloister, from the 1400s, is decorated with brick
friezes and holds an interesting cycle of late fifteenth-century
frescoes which represent episodes of the live of San
Benedetto.
