SUMMARY: Ecclesiology and Religious Experience. Foundational and Ecumenical Aspects
The ecumenism of the last years reveals itself to be very complex. Resulting from the great progress of growing closer after the post Conciliar period we expected the possibility of overcoming the separations of Christians. Instead, we live today with a certain disappointment. In spite of all the progress and agreements between the different churches, the union among Christians is as far away as ever. The A. analyzes in the first part, this disappointment and then in a second section, presents a concept of ecclesiology that could possibly help to understand the actual problems. In the third part, he wishes to present the possible consequences of this ecclesiology for academic work in the ecumenical field.

SUMMARY: Do Not Kill (Jewish-Christian Day - 17 January 2012)
The usual Jewish representation of the Decalogue, displays five commandments on one table and five on the other. This makes the “I am the Lord your God” correspond, symmetrically to the “Do not kill”. From the corollary one may deduce that whoever sheds human blood lessens the image of God in the world. In the first eleven chapters of Genesis, the reference to human being created in the image of God is found in three fundamental passages. In the first, man is constituted representative of God on earth; in the second, the transitory property is seen for which the son of Adam is also in the image of God; the third is placed directly in connection to the mandate against killing. In the last passage the prohibition is connected to inter-human fraternity. Every homicide is, in its nature, fratricide. The Koran as well as the Mishnah confirms this by starting with the assassination of Abel by Cain; they hold that who kills a single person acts as if they killed the whole world.

SUMMARY: Transformed by Christ the Servant
Today’s message reminds us of the plan of salvation willed by God, and the way in which it was accomplished. The judgment of God seeks to restore and not to destroy. After man had marred the original image and likeness that drew him simmecloser to his Creator, God intended to accomplish a marvel even greater by putting his divine life in man and by transforming him in to the image of his Son. For this reason the Son of man came to us as “servant” carrying out his mission with gentleness and peace, and with the abandonment of all thoughts of revenge and punishment and giving up any instrument and plan of war and any use of force. In the same way, we are all called to work and be responsible for the transformation desired by God through the fructification of the gifts or charisms that he generously bestows with great variety for this purpose.

SUMMARY: Transformed through the patient expectation of the Lord
The Bible verse that orients the second day of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2012 is part of the context of the Matthean version of the baptism of Jesus. The passage is a miniature, which contains the heart of the whole gospel and reveals the deepest mystery of God: Trinitarian love.

SUMMARY: Changed by the Peace of the Risen Lord
Over the centuries, there were divisions among Christians on the various articles of the Creed. Only in the twentieth century, however, there have been disputes concerning the last article of the Creed, the faith in the Lord’s resurrection and our resurrection. Disputes, which among other things, the Vatican has responded by insisting repeatedly that the expectation of the future world does not diminish but rather increases commitment to serving others and improving the present condition of our humanity.

SUMMARY: This is the victory, our faith (cf. 1 Jn 5:4)
Some commentators believe that I Jn 5:4 marks, internally, the divide between two sections of the text: the first part, should first be connected to the complex, and in some aspects, obscure discussion that follows in relation to the coming of Christ “in water and blood” , witnessed by the Spirit and, again, by water and blood. These notes will focus on the theme of “victory”: in doing so, however, they take into account both the immediate context, and against the background of some strong lines of the Johannine literature. The interest is not, of course, exegesis in the strict sense, but not ecumenical in the technical sense. It is, rather, of a spiritual nature, which basically invites one to celebrate a week “of prayer.”

SUMMARY: Feed my sheep (Jn 21:19). Changed by the Good Shepherd
The care is not the prerogative of a church or a single religious path. It, in contrast, passes through all human experiences even before religious ones since if it is true that we find the “golden rule” in all experiences that the care of others seems to be the slogan: do to others what you would have them do unto you.

SUMMARY: United in the Reign of Christ. To the one who conquers I will give a place with me on my throne (Rv 3:21)
The author duly notes that the invitation to the transformation repeated during the week is fulfilled in the promise of unity with Christ and the Father, made by Christ to the church of Laodicea. Christ encourages the church to a journey of conversion that may share with him the victory over the world; those who listen with docility to the voice that invites to an intimate relationship of love enters into the intimacy of Trinitarian life: it is the only place of unity.

SUMMARY: Transfiguring Love Therapy of Evil (Romans 12: 21)
The author, based on a careful analysis of the texts of the Fathers, after having explained the concept of evil as the absence of good, illustrates the unifying power of Christ’s salvation as opposed to evil as a cause of division, drawing some ecclesial and ecumenical conclusions.

SUMMARY: Changed by the Suffering Servant. “God comes to every person in their affliction”
The theme of this third day of the Week of Prayer is particularly challenging, not only because the theological discussion of the theme of evil and suffering is one of the more troubled and inconclusive “tracts” of the history of theology, but also because talk of suffering always runs the risk of developing a good theory of that which others, in spite of themselves, live in their flesh. Perhaps in the face of suffering, we should remain silent, but one can produce a meaningful discourse on suffering by telling how it was developed by those who lived it first hand, referring more to the witness than the teacher. The witness has the advantage over the teacher by speaking himself in the language that expresses an experience, not an abstract theory.
